Neon Indicator and LED Indicator Lights

Neon Indicator and LED indicator lights, also known as signal lamps, are used within applications to show when a device or process is in operation. Applications are varied and include industrial control panels, medical, test & measurement, power distribution, security and access, home appliances and HVAC equipment. The light sources for these devices are now primarily neon lamps or LEDs with some use of incandescent lamps.

Mains Neon Indicator

Neon indicator lights are most suited to mains voltage applications of 110VAC, 220VAC and +90VDC.  A neon indicator consists of two electrodes within a glass case containing neon gas. When a mains voltage is applied, the neon gas ionizes and starts to glow which allows a small current to pass between the electrodes. A lower voltage will maintain the operation of the lamp once it has been ionized.

Mains neon indicators are available in various sizes making them ideal for mains panel applications. They do however, have a limited brightness and less colour variables than LEDs.

LED Indicator Light

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. They usually run on direct current (DC) as the voltage in AC mains applications is too high for the LED to accept. They are most suitable for 12VDC and 24VDC applications although, LED indicator lights 240V  are avaliable.  LEDs can be manufactured to contain a circuit to allow them to operate at mains voltage if required.  Generally, LED indicator lights produce brighter light than other lamps whilst consuming less power and maintain a longer operational life.  Consequently, they are often a more expensive option.

Incandescent Panel Lamp

An incandescent lamp is an electric light with a wire filament which glows when a current is passed through it. They can operate from 1.5V to 300V and work well with AC or DC voltages. They are however, very inefficient with a high percentage of energy lost as heat. They have a shorter operational life than LEDs but they are a less expensive alternative for low voltage applications.

LED indicator lights and signal lamps are widely used now in most applications due to their durability and efficiency. However, neon indicator lamps are the most cost effective option for a mains driven application.

Control Panel Indicator Lights
Our range of neon indicator lights are manufactured by Everel, Italy. They are available in 6mm, 10mm, 12mm and 13mm panel cutouts. Colours offered are red, green and amber. LED indicator lights 240v
The majority of our products contain a neon indicator lamp 240V however, our range does include LED indicator lights 240V. As an example, the SX33C167XE00013 has a 10mm panel cutout, T80⁰C with 6.3mm tabs. It also has anti rotation ribs. These 12V indicator lights contain incandescent lamps which enable them to run at low voltage.

Our switch indicator lights snap fit easily into a panel and have quick fit connections, either 4.8mm or 6.3mm depending on the range.

Deca SwitchLab 16mm Indicator lights


The Deca products can be fitted with neon, incandescent or LED lamps. The D16 series offers a choice of shape round, square or rectangular and colour blue, green, orange, red, white or yellow. Due to the number of choices available we don’t hold stock of these items, however, lead-times are not long and MOQs are not high.

They are a modular product so you need to select lens shape, colour and lamp according to your requirements, as below:

Lens Shape – Square, round or rectangular, Concave or Flat
Lamps – LED – 6v, 12V or 24VDC,
Neon – 110 or 220VAC
Incandescent – 6V-60VAC/DC
Lens Colours – blue, green, orange, red, white, yellow

Our stock items are 24V LED indicator lights, red or green, 12mm. They are IP67 rated with a stainless steel body making them suitable for harsh environments. The lamp life is 40,000 hours.
